Role
Delivered a frictionless experience for fleet managers to effectively oversee and manage their fleets with optimal efficiency.
Outcome
Acetech is a world leader in vehicle intelligence solutions for the emergency services market. Acetech equips emergency fleets with the tools they need to excel. Their technology tracks vehicles, provides in-vehicle control systems, and optimizes operations – all to enhance emergency response efficiency and crew safety.
Background
Fleet managers have found themselves growing increasingly frustrated with Acetech's trio of legacy products—Vehicle Intelligence, Asset Intelligence, and Fleet Intelligence. The fragmented nature of these tools hindered cohesive communication, leading to operational breakdowns in the critical management of emergency services fleets.
Problem Statement
User Interviews
Talking with Acetech’s users revealed three pivotal themes influencing the experience of Acetech's product offerings.
This is Shane, a veteran in emergency fleet management, Shane thrives under pressure. User-friendly tools that unify data are the secret weapon he needs to keep the wheels of his emergency response unit turning smoothly.
Persona
Join Shane in his daily high-stress role managing ambulances, he grapples with the inefficiency of two non-communicative products, striving for effective fleet coordination.
We chose certain goals based on what we learned from our findings and how they would impact Shane’s experience. By zeroing in on these important areas, we're aligning our efforts with the most significant frustrations we identified.
Design Goals
Informed by Shane's goals and frustrations, collaborative workshops with stakeholders provided valuable insights, unveiling necessary solutions for addressing each theme.
Workshops
To make things easier for Shane we focused on simplifying navigation. By deconstructing the product structure and consolidating elements into a unified entity, we aimed to make it effortless for Shane to locate crucial information in his day-to-day fleet management.
Our approach involved meticulous mapping of the structures from the three existing products, strategically merging overlapping elements to create a more cohesive and user-friendly Information Architecture.
Restructuring the architecture
We focused on specific tasks flows that Shane and other Acetech users would carry to demonstrate the seamless connecting of vehicles, assets and paramedics in day to day tasks.
Lo-Fi Wireframe
Feedback from testing the low-fidelity wireframe with internal and external stakeholders revealed that users found navigation between vehicles and assets significantly easier. However, there's still room to improve the speed of the process.
We made things easier for Shane by giving him one place to manage his entire fleet. No more switching between products! This saves him time, reduces errors, and lets him react faster to problems.
Shane was frustrated by having to use three separate softwares to do his day to day tasks as a fleet manager.
Cohesive Experience
Shane can now get more out of his fleet data! He can see everything he needs right in the platform, without exporting the data. This lets him analyze data faster and make better decisions for his fleet.
Shane was incessantly bombarded with notifications that he was not interested in.
Data on Demand
Shane felt restricted by the limited reporting available and often had to export it to find any value.
Notifications
Shane can now customize the alerts he gets! This means he only sees important information and avoids getting overloaded with useless stuff. He's in control and can focus on what matters most for his fleet.
By creating a cohesive product we aimed to enhance fleet managers like Shane operational productivity. Here's a closer look at the measurable improvements achieved based on follow up conversations between Acetech and their customers.
