Design Lead - UX/UI Design, Design System Management and Documentation, Accessibility Design.
Role
Establishment of the Proper design system. Improving on the speed of design workflows, component reusability, and estimation reduction.
Outcome
The aim of Proper.ie is to make it easier for home buyers in Ireland to assess the value of a house they are interested in, based on nearby sales.
There is a lack of transparency in the Irish housing market, their goal is to address this by presenting publicly available data in a clear and user-friendly way.
Background
During my time at Xwerx, I was part of a project for Proper.ie. This project involved laying the foundation for a comprehensive design system. The goal was to establish a library of reusable UI components and design principles to streamline their design workflow, improve consistency across their digital products, and ultimately enhance the user experience for their customers.
Project Overview
A curated selection of colours was established to represent Proper.ie's brand identity. This palette included primary, secondary, and accent colours, along with neutral tones for backgrounds and text. The colours were chosen to be both informative and visually appealing within the context of the Irish property market.
Colour Palette
A consistent type hierarchy was defined, specifying fonts and sizes for headings, body text, labels, and other UI elements. This ensured readability and created a clear visual hierarchy for information on Proper.ie's digital platforms.
Typography
A set of pre-defined column layouts was established to guide the organisation of content across various pages. This ensured consistent and responsive information presentation for a user-friendly experience across multiple devices.
Layout
A consistent spacing system was implemented, defining margins and padding for different UI elements. This established visual rhythm and improved the scannability of information on Proper.ie's interfaces.
Spacing
Reusable navigation components were created, providing a standardized way for users to access different sections of Proper.ie's website. This ensured a consistent and intuitive user experience across all pages.
Navigation
A library of pre-designed buttons with various styles and functionalities was developed. This provided designers with a consistent set of options for calls to action throughout the user journey.
Buttons
Consistent design patterns were established for input fields, including text fields, dropdowns, and date pickers. This ensured a familiar and efficient user experience when interacting with forms on Proper.ie.
Fields
Reusable dropdown menus were created, providing a consistent way for users to select options from pre-defined lists. This offered a user-friendly interaction pattern for filtering or selecting information.
